What is the consultation asking?

In this consultation the sponsors of the proposed Academy and the Council are seeking your views on the proposal that John Bunyan Upper School should close as a 13 to 18 Community School on 31 August 2010 and re-open as a 13-18 Academy on 1 September 2010 with an admission number of 240.

Who is being consulted?

The sponsors of the proposed Academy and the County Council are consulting with parents of the children at John Bunyan and in its feeder lower and middle schools, with parents of pre-school children, the staff of John Bunyan Upper School, Professional Associations and Trade Unions, the governing bodies of local schools, the Learning and Skills Council, the Dioceses, the Borough Council, relevant Parish Councils and the Urban Community Council and other interested parties. The students of John Bunyan Upper School and the pupils of other local schools will be consulted via their school councils. A consultation brochure has been sent to all those listed above

How can I have a say ?

The consultation process started on 15 December 2008 and ended on 9 February 2009.

A public meeting was held at John Bunyan Upper School at 7pm on 14 January 2009 to which over 80 parents and other interested members of the public attended. This provided an opportunity for parents and others to meet with representatives of the Sponsors, the School and the County Council in order to ask questions about the proposals and to make their views known. Drop-In Surgeries were also held at the school on 21 and 22 January 2009 for parents to make appointments and meet in private with representatives of the Sponsors and of the County Council. Staff briefings also took place during December '08, January '09 and February '09.

A Consultation Report has been drawn up with the responses and feedback received as part of the consultation process and issued to the County Council and Department for Children, Schools and Families. Click here for a copy of the report
