Site characteristics

What do we know about the site?

Conran & Partners, our feasibility architects, have produced these diagrams to summarise what we know about the proposed site for the new Academy. This is an important step in making sure that the site is suitable for the new buildings, and that the design will fit in with the surroundings.

site constraints diagram

The Site Constraints diagram shows things which will influence the new buildings location on the site. The existing John Bunyan buildings will need to remain until the Academy is finished. There are mature trees and hedgerows around the edge of the playing field and there might be a small risk of flooding at the bottom of the field. This diagram also shows how the sun moves around the site and areas where there might be a risk of noise and soil pollution. Thankfully these are outside of the site boundary (marked in red).

The Character Studies show important information about the sites historical and landscape context, whilst the building height study shows how most of the surrounding buildings are two storey with some isolated three storey buildings.

Aecom, our technical advisors, have commissioned a series of more in depth surveys to make sure that we take into account ecology, archaeology, pollution risk, existing services, topography, ground conditions and surrounding water courses when we develop our site.
