Year 10 Summer Challenge

Invest a Little Time This Summer for a Stronger Start in Year 11

As we reach the end of the academic year, we would like to encourage all Year 10 students to take part in our Summer Challenge.

This initiative has been designed to help students maintain their learning over the summer holidays and prepare effectively for the important year ahead. Research from the Education Endowment Foundation indicates that engaging in structured learning activities during the summer can have a positive impact on academic progress. By dedicating even a small amount of time to practising key skills in Mathematics, English and Science, students can return to school better prepared for the demands of Year 11.

This year’s Year 10 assessments have highlighted that many students would benefit from further strengthening their knowledge and understanding in these core subjects. To support this, we have developed a range of subject-specific tasks for students to complete over the summer holidays.

All Summer Challenge activities can be accessed via the school website and completed at a time and pace that suits each student throughout the break.

We strongly encourage every student to complete as many tasks as possible. Even a small amount of regular practice can reinforce essential knowledge and skills, making the transition into Year 11 smoother and helping students begin the new academic year with greater confidence. Every task completed is an investment in future success.

To recognise students who demonstrate commitment to their learning, every student who successfully engages with the Summer Challenge will receive a free lunch during the autumn term.

Year 11 is one of the most significant years in a student’s education. The effort invested this summer can make a meaningful difference to confidence, progress and ultimately GCSE outcomes.

We encourage all students and families to make the most of this opportunity and begin Year 11 one step ahead. We wish everyone a restful summer and look forward to welcoming students back in September, ready for a successful year ahead.
