Welcome message from the Principal

I am delighted to welcome you to Bedford Academy. Our aim is to create a centre of excellence at the heart of the community that provides outstanding learning opportunities for all.

The Academy is sponsored by The Bedford Charity (The Harpur Trust) and Bedford College, and together we will educate students initially aged 13–18 from September 2010.

We are determined that every student who attends Bedford Academy is nurtured to reach their full potential in a culture of respect and exemplary behaviour, where no one gets left behind. We have high expectations and we are committed to raising standards by providing high-quality education. Our first-class team of staff will ensure practical and active learning that is stimulating, exciting and enjoyable.

Our specialist subjects, Science and Technology, will be embedded within our broad and rich curriculum, focusing on developing students’ confidence, understanding, experience and skills. We will offer a wide range of academic and vocational courses in partnership with Bedford College and other partners, as well as a wide choice of enrichment activities.

Students will be ambassadors for our school, heavily involved in its running. They have already chosen a smart uniform and are working with us to design our brand-new buildings. We want parents and carers to be partners in our shared ambition to establish a culture of achievement; working together to provide support and care to our students before and after school.

The Academy is investing time working in partnership with local middle and lower schools to create the best possible transition experience for students moving to secondary school. This means our students will have had the chance to get to know the Academy before they arrive. By understanding every child individually, we can really support them from the beginning of their time with us.

This website sets out the vision for Bedford Academy and I hope it conveys my excitement in leading the school.
